What Seeds Are We Planting?
One of the hardest things my wife and I encounter in our lives is our children's growth in Christ. Everything we say and do around them and with them leaves a seed and will impact their lives. The most humbling question we face is, "What seeds are we planting in their lives through the words we speak and actions we make?"
This is truly a humbling thought and requires us to evaluate the seeds that we plant in other people's lives, both in our children and to those around us.

Galatians 6:6-10
6 Let the one who is taught the word share all good things with the one who teaches. 7 Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. 8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. 9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. 10 So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

How are we supporting those who teach us? Paul calls us to 'share all good things' with those who teach us. God calls people to serve in the role of ‘teacher,’ and we are called to support them. These teachers are planting seeds in our lives. There are many ways to provide support to those who God called to be in our lives, whether it be through material things such as financial support or spiritually through prayer. We are to support with whatever good things are deemed appropriate. This may also be through service within the church as well. God blessed us with different gifts, and blessing those who teach us through our gifts is another opportunity.
But, we are to ensure when we provide support and when we serve that we are doing it for the right reasons. If we do these things for ourselves, we are then deceiving ourselves. If we are doing it specifically for the teacher, pastor, or leader but not from our hearts and being led by God, then we again are deceiving ourselves. Paul says that God is not to be mocked. Through our actions and words, we plant seeds, and those seeds will grow and will be reaped at a later time. This may occur through both good and bad. What we pour into the teacher God has called for us, and what we pour into our children are seeds that may be reaped later.
God calls us to invest and sow edifying seeds into our children and those that God has placed in our lives. We are to daily live above reproach and pour out the fruits of the Holy Spirit so that the seeds planted by our actions and words are pleasing to God. Additionally, this involves the daily and personal sowing of seeds in our minds and hearts with what we allow to enter them. We should not plant seeds that are pleasing to the flesh, because those weeds may run rampant and take over the fertile ground. When we plant seeds of the flesh, the only thing we can reap is corruption. Sin corrupts our hearts, our minds, our words, and our actions.
Therefore, let us sow seeds of love that are a witness of Christ in our lives. Let us sow those seeds into our children, into our coworkers, into our teachers and pastors. All the while, we are to have patience through this process. Plants don’t spring up overnight once a seed is planted. God cultivates and nourishes those seeds until the Holy Spirit allows them to blossom. God calls us to persevere in love according to His will for our lives, and when the Holy Spirit is leading us, the fruits may bloom and be nourishing in the hearts where they were planted.
God gives us opportunities to grow and plant seeds every day. God calls us all in different ways. Don’t let the opportunity pass you by. Be open to the calling of the Holy Spirit and allow God to lead you where you are best utilized. Love one another and bless those that God placed in your life. Share all good things with those that God places above you, around you, and below you. Again, as Christians, we are brothers and sisters in Christ, and we are especially called to do good to one another.
We are to be encouraging one another to continue an active and fruitful walk with Christ. Additionally, we are to develop our children and plant the seeds of Christ in their lives so that they may pursue an active walk with God.
